Swirly Spring Bday

I made these two cards for the MFTWSC280 Sketch Challenge at MFT (and I even used an MFT Die!) but I missed the deadline for entry! UGH!!! Well, the sketch served me well as I was happy with how these cards turned out. I was so sure I was going to make IDENTICAL cards, but, as always, there are differences: The dark purple panel and the inner squares are not the same size (and the squares are different patterned paper), and the sentiment tags are slightly different. The second card also has a perforated line at the top that I added with my Sew Easy tool. I didn't really like how that turned out so I didn't repeat it on the other card. I originally cut out the flowers without stamping them, then decided they needed more pop, so I did something unconventional by carefully placing my die cut on top of the stamp that I had inked with VersaMark. Not an ideal way to emboss, but I got lucky in that it worked just fine. Thanks so much for looking!

Supplies Used:
Paper: SEI Couture
Stamps: Heartfelt Creations Botanical Floral, TSOL happyBday2you (sentiment)
Dies: My Favorite Things Medium Fancy Flourish, Spellbinders Rose Creations, Classic Edges One
Ink: VersaMark
EP: Zing EP in Powder and WOW! EP in Shrinking Violet

Aloha Aqua Flower

Today's post name comes from the creativity of my ten-year old. My creativity is better expressed in card-making (I would've called it Aqua Hello Card. Pretty boring, I know.)

I did have a lot of fun with the Fusion Challenge -- I just love the aqua ombre wedding cake! I tried to fancy up my card by using the lacy swirly circle die along with a background stamp that I got at 70% off after Valentine's and have finally gotten around to using. (It's so hard to justify buying more stuff when I haven't used what i own, but who can pass up a 70% off clearance bargain?!).

I started by creating the narrow panel by clear embossing the stamped image then blending three shades of distress inks, from lightest to darkest, over that. The darker panel was created by first covering the paper with distress ink then stamping the background pattern with Brilliance Moonlight White Ink to give it a subtle shimmer. I had in mind to use the same flowers for both cards, but I ran out of white flowers so I had to improvise. I use coffee filters to catch my embossing powders or glitter, so I just grabbed one, die cut the flowers from it, then inked them with distress inks and Brilliance. I also added another wish-list item from this card: I wanted to stamp 'thinking of you', but I didn't have a stamp with just the right font or size for this label. Who knew that having several of the same sentiment stamps would STILL not be enough?! And the stash will continue to grow....can't wait for Christmas!

Supplies Used:
Inks: Tumbled Glass, Broken China & Peacock Feathers Distress Inks;
Brillance Moonlight White, VersaMark
Stamps: Recollections Background Stamp, Verve & TSOL sentiments
Dies: Heartfelt Creations Layered Elegant Swirl, Sizzix Swirls,
ODBD Vintage Flourish Pattern, Nestabilities Rose Creations
Other: Spare Parts Flowers, Clear Embossing Powder, Forever in Time Gems

Color Throwdown

Got to break open my new SU ink pads...and matching paper! Used the color combo of Bermuda Bay, Real Red & Smoky Slate for the CTD304 Challenge over at Color Throwdown. Also used Sketch MFTWSC188 over at My Favorite Things. I originally was going to use dp from Authentique, but it didn't match the SU Colors EXACTLY, and I really wanted to use my new SU stuff, so I opted for making my own background paper with some old flower stamps I had. I don't have any of the SU Neutrals, so my slate is the background paper which is from Authentique. I'm sending this to a friend who is celebrating her 50th...I think she will appreciate the fact that I didn't emphasize that number in her card! TFL!

While I was at it, I did manage to make a second card. I am in love with those little butterflies!

Stamps: Fiskars Friendly Flowers, Heartfelt Creations Botanical Floral Sets 1 & 2, Stamps By Judith: Dots, TSOL crazy4daisies HB sentiment

Flip-it Card

The Splitcoaststampers' Die Cut Swing Card Tutorial inspired me to give this flip-card thing a try. I know there are many flip-card dies out there to make it easy, but I'm not sure if I like them enough to invest. So I thought I'd try the DIY version, but I had to go and make it more complicated by changing the dimensions of the card. I prefer 4 1/2 x 6 cards, so I started with a card base of 6 x 6. I picked up the dp at the local fabulous scrapbook store, Memories & Beyond.  I'm entering it into the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge - Anything Goes even though my card is more green than blue, but I thought it was close enough. Once again, it took way too long to make, but that was because I had to practice to get the dimensions right. Then I realized that there wasn't much room to write....ugh! This just may be my one-and-only flip-it card:

Supplies Used:
Paper: Prima
Stamps: Power Poppy, TSOL (inside sentiment)

More Masculine Cards

My first card for today is for my brother's birthday. I have a difficult time doing masculine cards because I never know what to use as a focal point - I hate to say that I need more supplies, but I really think I could use some more stamps for guys. If I can't use flowers or swirls, I get stuck. Luckily, I had some Camping Themed paper, which saved me! I also die cut some leaves for accents.

Supplies:
Paper: Bobunny & Imaginisce
Stamps: Heartfelt Creations: Botanical Floral 2
Inks: Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Peeled Paint, Mowed Lawn, Walnut Stain & Tea Dye
Dies: Heartfelt Creations: Rose Creations Shapeabilities
Other: Sizzix Happy Birthday ef, Ticket Punch

Since I had the supplies out, I made a second card - this one is for my father-in-law for Father's Day. The kids all call him 'Pop', so I grabbed the 'Pop!' stamp from TSOL's popcorn2stamp set and added some glitter. I wanted this card to be simple, but I thought the background needed something, so I just stamped random leaf images on the upper portion of the card. I hope I remember to use this card when the time comes!! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies:
Paper: Bobunny
Stamps: Paper Inspirations (Happy Father's Day), TSOL popcorn2stamp, Heartfelt Creations: Botanical Floral 2
Inks: Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Mowed Lawn

Other: Martha Stewart Glitter in Peridot, The Rubber Cafe's Stamp Happy Glue

TLC469 Challenge Card

I've been trying to follow more challenges over at Splitcoaststampers. Here is a card I made nearly three weeks ago for the TLC469 Challenge. I loved trying the Doodling Technique as i got to use my new Signo Uni ball White Gel Pen. What a difference a good quality white gel pen makes. It was so easy to doodle with this! I love how the ink flows so smoothly and how great the results are with this pen. And I loved the posted example so much, I CASEd it: http://images.splitcoaststampers.com/data/gallery/500/2014/02/16/YouMakeLifeFabulousByDawn_by_TreasureOiler.png?ts=1392608043
